Bradley R. Kwapiszeski, M.D. (Dr. K)
Dr. Brad Kwapiszeski is a board-certified ophthalmologist who joined the team at Shawnee Mission Eye Care in 1995. He specializes in small-incision, suture-less cataract surgery as well as refractive surgery and glaucoma. He was the first ophthalmologist at Shawnee Mission Medical Center to routinely use topical anesthesia during cataract surgery. Topical anesthesia allows patients to have cataract surgery without a shot and allows them to see immediately following the surgery without the need for a patch. He is also an investigator in a national glaucoma research study attempting to find a new treatment for glaucoma.
Dr. Kwapiszeski, or Dr. K for short, is a Kansas City native and attended medical school at the University of Kansas. He received a scholarship as one of the top three medical students in his class. He was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society during medical school. He then specialized in ophthalmology at Loyola University Chicago. Here, Dr. K. was instrumental in bringing topical, clear-corneal cataract surgery to the residency program and training fellow residents in this new technique. Dr. K. was voted resident of the year in his final year of residency. He also received many awards during his residency. Dr. K. continues to contribute to many medical organizations and currently serves as President of the Kansas City Ophthalmology Journal Club.
Dr. K participates in charitable clinics locally, as well as, internationally. He spent two weeks in the out-reaches of Nigeria, performing cataract surgery in areas where mature cataracts blind a majority of the people over 50 years of age. Dr. K is married and has three lovely daughters. He enjoys basketball, skiing, and golf in his free time. |
